Assemblies of God Church admonishes Christians on dignity in labour

Assemblies of God Church Nigeria has advised Christians to place hard work above yearning for easy cash reward. This was part of the sermon during 2025 Men’s Week of the Assemblies of God Church at the National Worship Centre, Garki, Abuja. 

The Men’s Week commenced on the 8th to 14th of September, 2025. In his sermon, which centred on the theme of the celebration, ‘Men at Work: Increasing Productivity,’ focusing the book of Ephesians Chapter 2.10, and Col 3.23, the guest minister, Bro (Barr) Egwu decried a situation where many people are running away from dignified work but chasing easier means of achieving financial breakthrough. 

“No one wants to work again, forgetting that there is dignity in work, as Colossians 3 vs 23- 24, which says ‘And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not and not to men… “Reward must not be by cash but act of strength and approved behavour, benefit derived for an event, not just salary, but recognition rendered,” the guest minister admonished. 

Barr. Egwu ended his sermon with the book of 1st Corinthians Chapter 15 vs 58, advising: “What so ever you do, pls do it well believing that your work is not in vain. Pray that your reward will have eternal value.” 

Highlight of the service included thanksgiving by the the Men’s Fellowship of the church, queen competition, presentation of awards to deserving members in recognition of their services to God and humanity, as well as discussions on different topics by resource persons for the upliftment of the soul and greater service to the Lord. 

Activities withing the week, culminating in the Sunday service, included discussions on ‘Increase in Productivity, Theology of Work, Ethical of Work, among others.
