Ericsson Completes Cloud Migration Of MTN MoMo In Four African Markets

Ericsson and MTN Group Fintech have completed the migration Mobile Money (MoMo) across key African markets.
The migration, built on the Ericsson Fintech Platform, transitions MTN MoMo from a legacy virtualised environment to a cloud-native architecture designed to improve platform performance and operational efficiency.
Involved markets include Eswatini, Ghana, Rwanda and Uganda, as the companies move MTN’s mobile money platform towards a standardised cloud-native architecture.
The migration is designed to improve platform performance and operational efficiency. The companies said the Following the migration, MTN recorded reductions of up to 86 percent in Cost Per Unit (CPU) processing overhead and database load.
The deployment also establishes a highavailability platform designed to support increasing transaction volumes and future growth while maintaining consistent services for consumers, merchants and ecosystem partners.
The upgraded platform is expected to simplify operations, reduce infrastructure overhead and improve API responsiveness, enabling faster integration for developers, merchants and ecosystem partners. Across the migrated markets, the deployment has delivered measurable improvements, including reduced application and database resource utilisation and API response times that are up to 80 percent faster.

The companies said the Ericsson Fintech Platform will provide a foundation for further expansion of digital financial services, deeper collaboration with developers and ecosystem partners, and continued growth of MTN’s fintech business.

Selected MTN operating companies are also exploring migration to public cloud infrastructure.
