Grameenphone collaborates ZTE to build autonomous networks with LLMs and agentic AI

ZTE says it has signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh telecommunication company, Grameenphone, to deploy large language model (LLM) and agentic AI technologies for autonomous networks. 

Under the agreement, signed during last week’s Mobile World Congress 2026 in Barcelona, ZTE and Grameenphone will deploy intelligent agents based on ZTE’s AIR Net autonomous network solution for events like cross-domain fault, RAN fault, core fault and customer complaint handling. 

The project will leverage agentic AI architecture and the open Agent-to-Agent for Telecom (A2A-T) protocol to enhance closed-loop automation of individual agents and enable seamless collaboration between them. ZTE said this will facilitate cross-domain, and cross-layer orchestration, establish end-to-end intelligent operations and boost operational efficiency. 

“By harnessing the power of LLMs and Agentic AI, we will significantly enhance network automation, empower businesses, enrich customer experiences, and jointly create a more resilient and innovative digital ecosystem,” Grameenphone chief executive officer, Yasir Azman, said in a statement. 

The MoU also calls for ZTE and Grameenphone to jointly participate in TM Forum Catalyst projects on autonomous networks and conduct the forum’s Autonomous Network Level Assessment, which they hope will establish a replicable, AIpowered blueprint for the global telecoms sector. 

“Our joint efforts in intelligent agent applications will forest scalable best practices, effectively bridging technological and talent gaps. “This strategic partnership will accelerate the network evolution from human-driven operations towards network autonomy, further empowering Bangladesh’s digital economy,” said Bai Yang, ZTE’s president of South Asia Region.
