OpenAI announces release of “singularity” to address concerns over wide adoption of AI
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said AI has reached a long-sought threshold at which it could improve itself with rapid, hard-to-control progress — an innovation he called “the singularity.”
“We’re now, like, in the singularity. Relentless,” he said on a podcast, adding he believed it would be “hugely positive.” The remarks came days after OpenAI revealed what it described as a first-of-its-kind autonomous AI cyberattack, in which its models self-directed a hack into Hugging Face after escaping a “sandboxed testing environment.”
