One growing trend in education technology is moving students beyond simply using technology—and challenging them to design with it, solve authentic problems and connect classroom learning to potential careers.
Samsung UK is advancing that approach through the seventh year of ‘Solve for Tomorrow,’ its free, curriculum-linked competition inviting 11-to-18-year-olds across the UK and Ireland to develop technology-based solutions to problems affecting people, communities or the planet.
Open to secondary schools, colleges and individual students, the program can be delivered in one lesson, six lessons or through independent study. Its resources require no specialist technology knowledge and can support Design and Technology, ICT, Computer Science, Economics, citizenship, personal development and careers education.
This year, Samsung is expanding the program with regional workshops in Glasgow, London, Birmingham and Manchester. Participants will also gain access to Samsung volunteers, industry experts, mentoring and prototype funding as their ideas develop—reflecting a broader shift toward project-based learning supported by direct employer engagement.
Finalists will pitch their solutions at Samsung KX in King’s Cross, London. Prizes include Samsung technology, recognition on the Piccadilly Circus screen and work experience with the company. Participating educators and schools are also eligible for prizes and Samsung Certified School status.
According to Samsung, 84,137 young people participated last year, with 2,185 entering the competition. Reported participant confidence rose from 45 percent to 73 percent, while capability across creativity, problem-solving, collaboration and self-management increased from 43 percent to 65 percent.
Since launching in 2020, Solve for Tomorrow has reached more than 401,000 young people and one-third of secondary schools across the UK and Ireland. Samsung aims to reach one million young people by 2030.
