The Media & Digital Skills Centre Nigeria has launched the ‘Support Coding Education Initiatives’ for public school in the country. The centre in a statement by the managing director, Engr. Ajibola Abiola, noted that Coding had been recognised as the foundational and most creative knowledge in the world, with the invention of operating systems such as Android/IOS, robots, drones, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Apps and all smart devices.
“We are living in an Era where all the aforementioned technologies are changing the global landscape in a multidimensional way.
Right now, we cannot afford to leave our children behind,” Abiola said. He noted that this is the reason the Nigerian government recently decided to integrate coding as a subject into the school curriculum.
Abiola, however, declared that the government may not be able to provide all the necessary materials and facilities required to kick-start the programme, especially in public schools.
He therefore called on well-meaning individuals, especially old students associations to sponsor Unique Coding Books (Level 1-5) and the corresponding Teacher’s Guide for their Alma mater so that instruction could take off in earnest in line with the new curriculum.
