A prominent education expert, Mr Gabriel Iruaga has called for the integration of technology education as a compulsory component in secondary school curricula. Iruaga, a United Kingdombased technology expert, said this move is essential to equip students with necessary skills to thrive in today’s digital age.
He urged the Nigerian government to integrate technological education into school curricula to drive digital literacy and prepare students for the future workforce. Iruaga, founder of Embold Lab and CEO of Rendcore Technology, made the call during a chart with newsmen, emphasising that technology education would not only enhance students’ problemsolving abilities but also prepare them for the demands of the modern workforce.
With technology rapidly evolving, the expert stressed that it is crucial for schools to prioritise tech education to ensure students are futureready. He stressed that introducing tech education from nursery and primary school levels would turn children’s curiosity into digital skills while secondary school students could progress into building practical projects. “When I think about integrating tech into Nigerian schools, I picture a six-year-old child curious about her mother’s phone.
Instead of scolding her, imagine a classroom where that same curiosity is guided into learning safe internet use, storytelling apps, or even simple logic games,” he said. At the university level, Iruaga said courses in data analytics, product design, cybersecurity, and AI should come with mentorship and internships to ensure graduates gain hands-on experience before entering the job market.
He called for collaboration between the government, EdTech platforms, telecom providers, and global tech companies to expand access to digital education nationwide.
