The new Honda CR-V Hybrid could be one of the automaker’s first models with its next-gen hybrid technology. Production for the crossover will reportedly start as soon as February 2027. Honda has already confirmed that models with its next-generation hybrid system will begin launching sometime next year. Honda’s hybrid models are popular right now as gas prices rise.
The automaker is already developing its next-generation hybrid system, which Honda has confirmed will launch in 2027. One of the first models with the new technology could be the CR-V hybrid. According to a new Nikkei Asia report, Honda will begin producing the next-generation CR-V hybrid earlier than originally planned, starting in February 2027 in Canada. Production will begin one month later at Honda’s American factories.
Motor1 reached out to Honda to confirm the report, and the automaker provided the following statement: ‘This was not announced by Honda. While we cannot comment on specific future product plans, as outlined in our 2026 Business Update, Honda remains on track to introduce next-generation HEV models beginning in 2027, featuring an all-new hybrid system and platform.’ The CR-V hybrid is likely one of the 15 global models featuring the next-generation hybrid technology, which Honda says will begin going on sale between 2027 and March 2030. Honda has promised the new powertrain will deliver “powerful driving performance.” The report also notes that Honda will develop an Acura based on the CR-V, which is likely the new RDX.
We don’t expect the luxury variant anytime soon, and there is a good chance the crossover from both brands could feature only a hybrid powertrain, mimicking the new Toyota RAV4. Honda has not provided a full breakdown of its new hybrid powertrain, but the automaker has discussed it. The new system will be slimmer and lighter than the current unit, slashing fuel consumption by 10 percent and production costs by 30 percent. The automaker is already developing new 1.5- and 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines for its hybrid powertrain, along with a more powerful setup for the American market.
This potent powertrain will pair with a new V6 engine to power its large hybrid-electric vehicles.
