OpenAI, AMD, Nvidia partner for AI centre that yields multi-million dollar revenue
OpenAI has announced a multi-year partnership with Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) to develop an Artificial Intelligence (AI) that will generate tens of billions of dollars revenue over the next five years.
According to a joint statement by the two technology firms, AMD will supply the California-based start-up with graphics processing units (GPUs) that are key to the development of artificial intelligence.
The partnership will lift OpenAI to diversifying its supply of semiconductors so that it does not depend solely on the US powerhouse Nvidia. In late September, Nvidia and OpenAI were said to have signed a contract of more than $100 billion in equipment to increase OpenAI’s generative AI capabilities.
Under the deal, AMD will issue OpenAI 160 million “warrants” — a financial product that can be converted to shares under certain conditions.
