Volvo Commences Delivering Electric Trucks On Diesel-dominated Freight Routes

Volvo Trucks has begun producing and delivering its latest generation of electric trucks, which can travel up to 435 miles on a single charge.

The auto maker has already rolled out the first units off its assembly line at its Tuve factory in Gothenburg, Sweden, following the range’s launch in April 2026.

The new models are designed to bring battery-powered transport to a wider variety of regional, construction, and long-haul assignments. Production will take place at Volvo’s manufacturing facilities in Gothenburg and Ghent, Belgium, while the trucks are being delivered to customers worldwide.

Leading the lineup is the Volvo FH Aero Electric with extended range. Its new e-axle creates additional space for batteries, helping the truck achieve a maximum driving range of 435 miles per charge. The FH Aero Electric also supports megawatt charging and offers high payload capacity. According to Volvo, the combination allows operators to deploy electric trucks on routes that have traditionally depended on diesel-powered vehicles.

Speaking on the new technology, president of Volvo Trucks, Roger Alm said: “We are now turning groundbreaking technology into industrial reality. Starting series production of our new electric trucks is a clear proof of our commitment to lead the transformation to more sustainable truck transport.”

Alongside the extended-range FH Aero Electric, Volvo is producing next-generation versions of its FH, FM, and FMX Electric trucks. These models use an all-new electric driveline developed to improve energy efficiency, productivity, and driving performance. The FH, FM, and FMX models offer driving ranges of up to 292 miles, providing options for different transport requirements.

Volvo’s broader electric portfolio now comprises eight models covering urban distribution, waste management, construction, regional operations, and long-haul freight.

“The response from customers is very positive, and we see a high interest in ordering the new trucks. With longer ranges, maximum flexibility across different applications and excellent drivability, it’s easier than ever to go electric,” Alm said.
