US tech firm steps up gains in global fight against environmental pollutants
United States-based clean technology company, Claros Technologies, has reached a significant milestone in the global fight against persistent environmental pollutants. The tech firm says it has successfully completed a large-scale commercial optimisation run of its proprietary ClarosTechUV platform at the manufacturing facility of Daikin America Inc. in Decatur, the State of Alabama.
The achievement marks a decisive step forward in the destruction of PFAS, referred to as “forever chemicals,” by transitioning the technology from successful pilot trials to full commercial readiness. PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are synthetic chemicals widely used in industrial processes and consumer products due to their resistance to heat, water and oil.
However, their extreme persistence in the environment and potential health risks have made them a growing regulatory and public concern worldwide. Developing a reliable, scalable method to permanently destroy these compounds has long been considered one of the industry’s greatest technical challenges.
According to Claros cofounder and chief executive officer, Michelle Bellanca, the commercialisation of ClarosTechUV represents a pivotal moment — not only for Claros and Daikin America, but for the broader PFAS landscape.
Bellanca emphasised that the milestone demonstrated how industry-led innovation can deliver sustainable, high-performance and cost-effective environmental solutions. She also highlighted Daikin America’s role in accelerating the technology’s journey from concept to industrial application.
